A Future for Amatrice
On menus around the world, one year of amatriciana for the reconstruction.
“All over the world, through this symbolic dish of Amatrice’s gastronomic history we hope to be able to spread also the values of solidarity and sharing the farming culture from which it originates.” Carlo Petrini, president of Terra Madre and Slow Food, began a solidarity campaign in order to sustain the people hit by the earthquake and begin thinking of their future from today.
Let us participate to these spontaneous initiatives which came to life during these difficult hours in Italy and let us re-launch and promote: ”calling on all restaurant owners around the world to make a commitment for an entire year. This way we hope that the attention will not vanish and will last beyond the emotional wave of the moment: let us overcome the emergency and begin the reconstruction today. Those who are living this tragedy need to be able to find their normalcy as soon as possible; the funds will need to last and the fundraising be constant”.
With Un futuro per Amatrice (#unfuturoperamatrice) we ask to restaurant owners all over the world to insert on their menu this symbolic dish of the battered city and to offer it for at least one year. To the patrons we ask to choose it. For each amatriciana ordered 2 Euros will be donated: one Euro offered by the restaurant and one Euro by the client. The funds will be directly wired to the Comune of Amatrice.
Meanwhile, in the immediate future, the invitation is to choose agricultural products coming from the stricken areas in order to sustain the local economy.
The Slow Food international network is already working to alert public opinion and gather as much commitment as possible.
