The Consulate General of Italy in Boston is pleased to announce the availability of grants in support of Italian language chairs at foreign universities issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The grants are intended to partially cover the stipend of teachers/professors of Italian hired by local universities.

UNIVERSITIES – GRANTS FOR ITALIAN LANGUAGE CHAIRS A.Y. 2026-27
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has issued a decree by which it establishes the criteria and procedures for the disbursement of funds for Italian programs.
These grants are for the creation and operation of chairs/professorships/lectureships of Italian language at foreign universities and are intended for the partial coverage of the remuneration of teachers hired by universities under local law contracts. The term “cattedra” i.e. chairs/professorships/lectureships means positions and/or courses in universities, in which the Italian language is among the languages taught, according to the regulations of the institution concerned, even if the position or course has a different denomination.
The contribution request for the Italian teaching position should not exceed €25,000.00.
The contributions must be used by the end of the activities of the academic year 2026/27.
Universities interested in submitting an application must complete Form A and send the request in PDF format via email to the Consulate’s Education Office at ufficioscuole.boston@esteri.it no later than March 15, 2026.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUNDING APPLICATIONS
Universities interested in competing and subsequently applying for grants must submit the following documents, each individually dated, signed and stamped by the Dean or Department Head:
- LETTER FROM THE UNIVERSITY (max one page): The letter must clearly and concisely state the reason for the funding request. It must be on the university’s official letterhead, signed by the Dean or Department Head, and bear the university’s official stamp.
- All. A: fully filled out in the section designated for universities.
In this case, when filling out ALL. A, universities must use the following exchange rate:
€1.00 = $1.1631
- All. B: Universities that have received funding within the last five years ( 2020-2024) must submit a final report on the use of the most recent grant received. This must be completed using All. B, fully filled out in the section designated for universities.
In All. B, in addition to specifying the actual amount received in US dollars, universities must also indicate the Euro amount assigned in the official communication from this Office without making new currency conversions at the time of completing All. B. The submission of the final report is a mandatory requirement for the approval and disbursement of the grant.
Universities must use only the official forms attached to this message. The forms must be digitally completed without any modifications to the text provided by this Office, ensuring that the date, university stamp (as applicabile), and the academic representative’s signature are properly included.

By April 15, 2026, universities must send the original hard copies of the required documents (Letter, Form A, and Form B) with the official stamp (if available) and the handwritten signature of the academic representative to the following address:
