Parents who are Italian by naturalization, marriage, re-acquisition, law benefit, or &#8220;iuris communicatione&#8221; are excluded. (<a href=\"https:\/\/consboston.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/stato-civile\/trascrizione-nascita-di-figlio-minorenne\/acquisto-della-cittadinanza-per-beneficio-di-legge\/documentazione-richiesta-caso-c\/\">required documentation<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Must be registered in &#8220;AIRE&#8221; and reside in the consular jurisdiction (link Fast-it).<\/li>\n<li>The &#8220;dichiarazione di volont\u00e0&#8221; (declaration of will) must be presented in person at the Consulate by 05\/31\/2029 by both parents before a &#8220;funzionario dello stato civile&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>The minor becomes a citizen starting the day after the declaration (not from birth).<\/li>\n<li>As an adult, they can renounce citizenship if they possess another one.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>MINORS UP TO 3 YEARS OLD<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Declarations can be presented within 3 years of birth or the date &#8220;filiazione&#8221; (filiation\/paternity) is established.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINORS OVER 3 YEARS OLD<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Must be a minor as of May 24, 2025, and be the child of a parent recognized as an Italian citizen &#8220;<strong>jure sanguinis<\/strong>&#8221; by March 27, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>If the minor has since become an adult, they must present the declaration personally by May 31, 2029.<\/p>\n<p>The Declaration must be made in person at the Consulate before a &#8220;<strong>funzionario dello stato civile<\/strong>&#8221; (civil status officer).<\/p>\n<p>If the parents do not declare simultaneously, the date of the second parent&#8217;s declaration shall prevail.<\/p>\n<p>If there is only one parent (or the other is deceased), the declaration of one is sufficient, provided there is documentary proof.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For law benefits, once the correctness of the documentation has been verified, interested parties must wait to be contacted by the &#8220;ufficio Stato civile&#8221; to schedule an appointment.
