At certain times of the year, numerous requests for appointments from users may lengthen the waiting time for the first available appointment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Italian citizens <strong>over the age of 75<\/strong> can make an appointment by sending an email to <a href=\"mailto:passaporti.boston@esteri.it\"><u>passaporti.boston@esteri.it<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Before making an appointment please check your civil registration (AIRE) with the Consulate General of Italy in Boston and update your Civil Status information.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Please read the following instructions carefully:<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><button type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#appuntamento-chi\">Who can book an appointment<\/button><\/p>\n<div id=\"appuntamento-chi\" class=\"collapse\">\n<p>It is possible to book an appointment for Italian citizens who are residents in the jurisdiction of this Consulate General (States of Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont) and registered with the Registry\/ AIRE of this Consulate (with updated address) and who have updated their Vital Records status (marriage, civil union, births of children, possible divorce, etc.) (<a href=\"https:\/\/consboston.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/stato-civile\/\">instructions here<\/a>). For married women, the transcription of the marriage certificate allows the insert of husband\u2019s last name in their passport.<\/p>\n<p>Italian citizens registered with AIRE in this Consular jurisdiction who reside in counties near the Springfield (MA) area, can contact the <strong>Honorary Consulate in Springfield <\/strong>to acquire all the biometrics (photo, digital signature and fingerprints) sending an email to: <a href=\"mailto:springfield.onorario@esteri.it\">springfield.onorario@esteri.it<\/a>. The passport will not be issued at the appointment but will be sent by mail.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><button type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#appuntamento-prima\">Before booking an appointment<\/button><\/p>\n<div id=\"appuntamento-prima\" class=\"collapse\">\n<p>Before booking a passport appointment, those who have moved to this consular jurisdiction from other jurisdictions or from Italy are requested to first register with the Registry\/ AIRE of this Consulate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>An Italian citizen who is a resident in this Consular jurisdiction but has not registered with AIRE in this Consulate will not be accepted for any passport application or appointment.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For further information contact:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/consboston.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/anagrafe-degli-italiani-residenti-allestero-aire\/\">Registry Office<\/a> to register the new address (in case of change of address in the consular jurisdiction of this Consulate General).<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/consboston.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/stato-civile\/\">Vital Records Office<\/a> to register in Italy possible changes in the Vital Records (marriage, civil union, births of children, possible divorce, etc.); we remind all Italian citizens that all variations\/changes in Vital Records that occur during their stay abroad must be declared to the competent consular office; all Vital Records must be submitted to the Office in charge well in advance of the date of the passport appointment (the Vital Records Office processes transcription requests in chronological order of submittance).<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Registry Office has up to 30 days to process the registration request to AIRE (once all required documents are submitted).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Those who are temporarily in the consular jurisdiction of this Consulate General (whether traveling through or for other reasons), are kindly requested to send an email to <a href=\"mailto:passaporti.boston@esteri.it\">passaporti.boston@esteri.it<\/a> explaining your situation, before booking an appointment; in this case the issuance of a new document is submitted to the Police Headquarter authorization or the competent Consular Office according to the applicant\u2019s place of residence.<\/p>\n<p>This Consulate General reserves the right\u00a0<strong>to cancel the appointments<\/strong>\u00a0which have been booked without following the above instructions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><button type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#appuntamento-come\">How to book an appointment<\/button><\/p>\n<div id=\"appuntamento-come\" class=\"collapse\">\n<p>Italian citizens of legal age (over 18) resident in the Consular jurisdiction of Boston\u00a0<strong>(MA, RI NH, VT, ME)<\/strong> are able to come to this Consulate General for the issuance of a Passport only after having scheduled a single or multiple online reservation (<a href=\"https:\/\/prenotami.esteri.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">click here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>For minor passport appointment<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>if the passport application is <strong>only for the minor<\/strong>, one of the parents must book a single appointment and enter the name of the minor in the notes; if the application is <strong>for more than one minor<\/strong>, the parent must book a multiple appointment and add them as accompanying person(s);<\/li>\n<li>if the appointment for <strong>the minor is in addition to that of the parent(s)<\/strong>, a multiple appointment must be booked from one of the parent\u2019s account and the minor(s) must be added as an accompanying person(s).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Italian citizens are required to cancel in advance any appointments they are not able to attend and to communicate the cancellation at least one week before the appointment to <a href=\"mailto:passaporti.boston@esteri.it\">passaporti.boston@esteri.it<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><button type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#cosa-portare\">What to bring the day of the appointment for the issuance of the passport<\/button><\/p>\n<div id=\"cosa-portare\" class=\"collapse\">\n<p>The day of the appointment, it will be necessary to bring to the Consulate the following:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 n.1 Colored passport picture in European format 35mm x 40mm (European size) or 1.5\u201dx 1.5\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/consboston.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/fotopassaporto.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">picture instructions<\/a>);<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0<strong>Money order or cashier check<\/strong> related to the payment of consular fee (<a href=\"https:\/\/consboston.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/altri-servizi-2\/percezioni-consolari\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">click here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The old passport. (<strong>In addition<\/strong>, a\u00a0<strong>valid ID<\/strong>\u00a0if the old passport has expired).<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The VISA for USA or the United States Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) issued or renewed after August, 16, 1992. If the Green Card issuance date is prior to that date, a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Office (USCIS) declaration attesting that the applicant has not acquired the U.S. citizenship is required;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 For dual citizens, U.S. passport and copy of Certificate of Naturalization (only for US citizenship aquired after the birth).<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 In case of request of a first Italian passport, it will be mandatory to present a valid passport of their own country of origin. For those who were born in the United States of America, it will be mandatory to present a valid U.S. passport.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Parents of minor children, compatriots, are hereby informed that as of June 14, 2023, it will no longer be necessary to submit the other parent&#8217;s consent for the purpose of issuing their identity document (passport and CIE), pursuant to Decree Law 69\/2023. Specifically, the amended Article 3-bis of L. 1185\/1967 indicates that if there is a concrete and present danger that, due to a relocation abroad, may evade the fulfillment of his or her obligations to the children, it will be possible for the other parent to apply for a restriction to the issuance of the document. \u00a0The application may be presented to the competent judge at the ordinary court where the child has his or her habitual residence or, if the child is resident abroad, the court in whose district his or her AIRE registration municipality is located. For the purpose of issuing documents for minors, however, the requirement of signed consent from both parents or those exercising parental responsibility remains in effect.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><button type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#rilascio-minore\">What is needed if the passport applicant is a minor (under 18)<\/button><\/p>\n<div id=\"rilascio-minore\" class=\"collapse\">\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Minor applicants must be physically present to the request of passport issuance<\/span><\/p>\n<p>a) N. 1 colored passport picture in European format 35mm x 40mm (European size) or 1.5\u201dx1.5\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/consboston.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/fotopassaporto.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">photo instructions<\/a>);<\/p>\n<p>b)\u00a0<strong>Money order or cashier check<\/strong> related to the payment of consular fee (<a href=\"https:\/\/consboston.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/altri-servizi-2\/percezioni-consolari\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">click here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>c) The previous Italian passport. (<strong>In addition<\/strong>, a <strong>valid ID<\/strong> if the old passport has expired). <strong>USA Visa or Green Card<\/strong>, <u>for minors in possession of Italian citizenship only<\/u>. <u>If minor is a USA citizen<\/u> and was born outside of the USA please also include a photocopy of Consular Report of Birth Abroad as well as USA valid passport.<\/p>\n<p>d) <strong>For minors born abroad<\/strong> in the case of the issuance of their first passport, it will be necessary for the birth certificate to have been sent to the relevant AIRE municipality for registration (see information on the Vital Records page) and to show the valid passport of their nationality of origin,<\/p>\n<p><strong>In addition to the requirements stated in points A, B, C, D, <\/strong>\u00a0the physical <strong>presence of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">both parents<\/span> and the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">minor<\/span>(s)<\/strong> is mandatory. In the event that one of the parents is unable to appear in person, he or she must complete and sign <a href=\"https:\/\/consboston.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/assensoperminori.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the letter of consent<\/a>. If the parent issuing the letter of consent is citizen of a European Union, a copy of a valid ID must be attached to the letter of consent; otherwise, the signature must be notarized by a Notary Public if in the U.S. or by a person authorized to authenticate it (Questura or City Hall if resident in Italy) or (Italian Consulate if resident in another country).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><button type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#prima-scadenza\">How long before the expiring date is it possible to apply for a new passport<\/button><\/p>\n<div id=\"prima-scadenza\" class=\"collapse\">\n<p>The issuance of a new passport is possible no earlier than 6 months from the expiring date of the former passport, except for\u00a0<a style=\"text-decoration: none;\" href=\"#\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#caso-urgenza\"><b>urgent\u00a0cases<\/b><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><button type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#caso-urgenza\">What to do in case of emergency<\/button><\/p>\n<div id=\"caso-urgenza\" class=\"collapse\">\n<p>URGENCIES: in case of documented emergency, please send an email as soon as possible to the passport office\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:passaporti.boston@esteri.it\">passaporti.boston@esteri.it<\/a>\u00a0explaining the reasons of the urgency and attaching a copy of the documents which explain the emergency.<\/p>\n<p>The possession of an <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>airline ticket cannot be considered a valid reason for the expedited issuance of a passport<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Urgency procedure benefits for work and health reasons <strong>cannot<\/strong> be extended to the applicant\u2019s family members.<\/p>\n<p>Below the most common cases:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 To come back to Italy or in the country of residence for study, work or health reasons;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Theft or loss of valid passport, if that is your only travel document;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Deterioration;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Exhaustion of pages for visas or entry stamps;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Renewal VISAS for USA.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><button type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#furto-smarrimento\">What to do in case of theft or loss<\/button><\/p>\n<div id=\"furto-smarrimento\" class=\"collapse\">\n<p>In case of theft or loss it is necessary to immediately report it to the police station of the place where the theft or loss occurred.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Italian citizens registered with this Consular jurisdiction must:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Contact this Consulate sending an email to passaporti.boston@esteri.it, anticipating by email the copy of the report of theft or loss of valid passport, if that is your only travel document;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Bring the original report at the moment of the passport application;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 1 colored passport photo in European format 35mm x 40mm (European size) or 1.5\u201dx1.5\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/consboston.esteri.it\/Consolato_Boston\/resource\/doc\/2017\/03\/4702_f_cons97datibiometrici1.pdf\">photo instruction<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Money order or cashier check related to the payment of the consular fee (<a href=\"https:\/\/consboston.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/altri-servizi-2\/percezioni-consolari\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">click here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 In case of minors, the consent of both parents is required see link at point 6;
