Coronavirus. Alitalia keeps Italy connected to the USA.

Washington, March 24, 2020. The Italian Embassy in Washington continues to maintain close contacts with Alitalia to ensure direct connections between the United States and Italy in the coming days, despite the ban on entry for those who have been in the Schengen area in the last 14 days decided by the American Authorities starting from March 13th.

Please note that this prohibition does not apply to American citizens and their family members, foreigners with permanent residence and their family members who must follow the procedures set by the Department of Homeland Security upon arrival.

There are no limitations for Italians who want to leave the United States to return to Italy, where they will have to comply with the provisions adopted by the Italian authorities, and upon arrival present the following document duly filled in.

For boarding Alitalia flights, masks are required.

In coordination with the Embassy, Alitalia plans to maintain 1 flight per day from 23/03 until 3/04 from New York (JFK) to Rome (FCO) and two flights per day from April 4th. Flights are subject to change based on the contingent situation.

Alitalia recommends using the company’s website (https://www.alitalia.com/it_it/fly-alitalia/voli-speciali/voli-speciali-usa.html#JFK-FCO-New_York-Roma), where special rates are available for passengers wanting to buy one-way flight from the US to Italy.

The Italian Embassy in Washington underlines that flights to third countries with a connecting flight to Italy are also available.

Italians in the USA should be aware of the importance of leaving the USA ahead of the VISA or ESTA expiry date.
